Sawm (fasting) is the fourth pillar of Islam and an act of worship that is most prominently observed during the month of Ramadan. It involves abstaining from food, drink, and sinful actions from dawn (Fajr) until sunset (Maghrib), purely for the sake of Allah.
Purpose of Sawm
Fasting is more than just refraining from eating—it is a spiritual discipline that builds patience, gratitude, and self-control. It draws a believer closer to Allah, increases taqwa (God-consciousness), and serves as a powerful reminder of the struggles of the less fortunate.
Wazifa While Fasting
To enhance the blessings of your fast and cleanse your heart from sins, you can practice this simple wazifa:
At the time of breaking the fast, recite the Sunnah dua:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّي لَكَ صُمْتُ وَبِكَ آمَنْتُ وَعَلَيْكَ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَعَلَى رِزْقِكَ أَفْطَرْتُ
“O Allah! I fasted for You, I believe in You, I put my trust in You, and with Your sustenance I break my fast.”During the fast, quietly recite:
اَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ (Astaghfirullah – “I seek forgiveness from Allah”).Reflect on your actions and intentions while reciting, aiming for both forgiveness and self-improvement.
Benefits of This Wazifa
- Cleanses Sins: Istighfar is a means of forgiveness and mercy.
- Strengthens Patience: Helps control desires and negative emotions.
- Brings Barakah at Iftar: The dua connects the act of breaking fast with gratitude to Allah.
- Increases Spiritual Reward: Maintains a focus on worship throughout the day.
Conclusion
Sawm is a spiritual journey of self-restraint and devotion. By reciting Astaghfirullah during the fast and making the Sunnah dua at iftar, you increase the blessings of your worship and draw even closer to Allah.
